This post hits me on a deep nostalgic level. It's hard to put into words but sometimes when I feel homesick and/or the weather is a certain way and this song is playing either in my head or aloud.... Now I'm getting sentimental. You nailed this post. great job! :)
Oh! When I opened up your blog page and that first image appeared, a huge sigh burst from my lungs, my heart, my soul! What absolute beauty you've captured...and what longing to stand in just such a place that image evokes.
On such a winter's day – when the windchill is in the single digits and the brown leaves are covered with snow – dreaming of walking along a California beach with you is enough to make one feel safe and warm.
Many years ago when I visited San Francisco I stood at the waters edge and marveled at how vast an expanse it all was, this photo captured that beautifully!
i like how the yellow horizon in the first picture comes back, so unexpectedly, in the shirt of the man in the second picture, and also the slight and tender humour of the entire diptych, i don't know weather it was intentional or no, but for me it has this effect: after the first picture which is the illustration of the romantic beauty of marine sunset, we have in the second one a totally ordinary looking person becoming part of the landscape, assuming the role of the viewer, neither a graceful heroin with misty eyes nor the solitary man of genius as in Caspar David's paintings (Wanderer above the Sea of Fog). powerful manifesto indeed!
My, my. Regarding Picture #1: I don’t believe I’ve seen water in photograph move before.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL....
ReplyDeleteThe photos fit perfectly with the song lyrics!
James Ellroy could do worse than slap photo #1 on the cover of one of his own odes to LA. Photo Noir, indeed...
ReplyDeleteI do like William Michaelian's comment up there!
