  1. It looks like it's been a rather good year for the poppies. Oh, and the lupine. I hope you stopped off at that antique barn on the way out. Beautiful - I'm getting sleepy lol

  3. SBJ! When the deserts bloom, it's a wonder to behold . . . one day, perhaps, I will behold them with you.

  6. Just an amazing landscape and sense of place. The photos make me think I've been there. I'll check out the place names on a map.

  7. One poppy, two poppies. Two hundred thousand poppies. That's the shame of the plural, unable to distinguish between two objects and a riot of them (such as a riot of poppies, of course). Two hundred thousand poppiessss. Is that better? Thusly the signifier thus bears a closer resemblance to the signified.

  8. Your pictures are a gift to those who cannot be there, but would be, if they could. So, thanks. Soul food.

Living in the same part of the world as you, I guess I'm lucky that poppies are my favorite flower!
    I love this post...

  11. Ah, the California poppy, as bright as the California sun. What a splendid carpet.

  12. Those roads. What's at the ends of them? And of course what's along the way, especially if you know what you're looking at? I didn't mean to return here, and I'd forgotten how spectacular these flowers are. Thanks for the comment at my place--I'd love to hear you elaborate on that in an autobiographical way, if it's not too sensitive. We might have some things in common. Your comment makes me want to recommend, again, Theodore Roethke's "The Waking," if I were the recommending type, which I'm not, but if I were, I'd probably recommend Roethke's "The Waking." That might have been disingenuous. I probably am very much the recommending type, and I often recommend Roethke's "The Waking."
