Bring in the New . . .

She sings a song unto her own ears, solitary, but it is sufficient.
It is the song of her being. Oh, if I may sing the song of my being it will be sufficient.

~ From The Poet in the Desert by Charles Erskine Scott Wood

  3. Separate worlds, existing in each other's shadow. New is simply a word for endless repetition.

  5. Beautiful how much colour, life, energy can thrive in such a harsh climate. Such inspiring words you've chosen to underline the image. I will copy them into my sometimes journal.

Wishing you a year of unexpected delights and happy discoveries.

  7. Have you ever seen any of Woods' watercolors? A writer, a poet, an artist, a humanist, a progressive thinker . . . he was truly someone I would have loved to have known. But alas, he died the year I was born. You, on the other hand, are alive and perhaps one day we will walk together in the desert high country and I will be able to witness your remarkable intellect at work.

  8. Happy New Year, Stickup. And thanks for offering so many landscapes I never see back east. Having snow AND blooming color never occurred to me as a possibility. Your photos plus your comment at my place make me think I should get back to the desert someday--and not in the summer, the only season I've seen there.

  12. Thank you and happy new year to you. I was recently in the Mountains and enjoyed a bit of snow. I was also struck by the silver and reds of sage and chapperal against the blue. So when I opened your post I had to sigh. Thats it

  16. i am so taken with the contrast between the colourful scene at the forefront and the background, those mountains look similar to those in chinese or japanese paintings, almost brushwork, one would say, ink wash...
