Sighs of Autumn Rain

In autumn rain, the grasses rot and die,
Below the steps, the jueming's colour is fresh.
Full green leaves cover the stems like feathers,
And countless flowers bloom like golden coins.
The cold wind, moaning, blows against you fiercely,
I fear that soon you'll find it hard to stand.
Upstairs the scholar lets down his white hair,
He faces the wind, breathes the fragrance, and weeps.

~ Du Fu, volume 216, no. 15 in the Complete Tang Poems, yr. 754

  1. Ah yes - breathe the fragrance and weep. Autumn shows us our fate - yearly, ever so gently, ever so beautifully.

Lovely marriage of words and images.

  5. When did the humans stop connecting to nature like this? To be so moved that you weep. Powerful words and written so long ago. You find the most astounding writings.

The roads look slick and the sky is thick. The grasses are sandwiched between the two in gorgeous colors. Very nice.

  6. Enchanting...I think rain and mist and fog are dreamy places....

"And I wonder, as I stand out in the rain, how much thunder could set the sky to flame, and burn away this cloud we live under...I wonder...."

    Sarah McLaughlin I think...

  8. The autumn rain highlights the changing colours while the darkened skies provide the perfect backdrop for them to glow against. I feel secure riding with you here, discovering what lies around the next bend...

  9. The cold, insensitive wind... how glad i am for her (assuming that the cold, insensitive wind is female) for she also bring re-birth to the land (so much simpler than the Eleusinian Mysteries).

  12. The shots are just beautiful but, please, don't mention the word rain! LOL! We had the most awful week: Summer suddenly gave place to heavy rains and winds up to 157 kph - floods and destruction everywhere! Gladly, the sun came back yesterday. Now it's autumn. :-)

  13. I'm wondering what comes just after the curve in the road, up there in the damp distance...

I notice that you have a Fall Back new background. I do believe that this is your anniversary of photographing. Happy Anniversary!
