I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
~ John Masefield

I'm in love with the intellect behind the lens, the artist who captured and created these provocative images – and, who chose one of my favorite poems to post with them.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, moody, scratched silk skies and seas. I love the subtlety of your post-processing; how it enhances an already beautiful picture rather than overwhelms it. A true artist's touch, Stickup.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Not too far from where I live either. I'm just up the coast a bit.
ReplyDeleteAll images are tauching me very much. Beautiful text, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!
ReplyDeleteDo you know, for years I have never known the real words to that poem...the only one I have in my head belongs to Spike Milligan "I must go down to the sea again, the lonely sea and the sky...I left my vest and socks there, I wonder if they're dry?"
ReplyDeleteWonderfully haunting photos, I love the sea on a stormy day.
The photos are really nice
ReplyDeleteI like them
These reminded me of "Death in Venice."

ReplyDelete"I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
ReplyDeleteIs a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied" - not only wild and clear, but mysterious and ambiguous and softly whispering and dreamy and hazy and subtle... the seas call with a myriad of voices in these photos of yours... wonderful.
Absolutely beautiful series! What a mood. I love piers and the bottom perspective is fabulous, showing the mussel(?) colonies on the pillars.
