Navajo Healing Chant

Dark cloud is at the door.
The trail out of it is dark cloud.
The zigzag lightning stands high upon it.
An offering I make.

Restore my legs for me.
Restore my body for me.
Restore my mind for me.
Restore my voice for me.
Restore my feet for me.

Happily I recover.
Happily my interior becomes cool.
Happily I go forth.
My interior feeling cool, may I walk.

No longer sore, may I walk.
Impervious to pain, may I walk.
With lively feelings may I walk.
As it used to be long ago, may I walk.

  2. The chant is like a self hypnosis mantra.

The pine cone is beautifully shot. Is it a really big one? I saw some in a forest out your way once that were huge...about the size of a human head!!

  4. I also like that lonely Cattail. And the way the other sticks are so inclined. Wish I could draw lines so freely as nature does.

  5. Stickup, your compositions cannot be explained with, not contained within words . . . with that said – you do reveal and evoke perceptions and emotions within me that leave me longing to know the person behind the lens.

  6. Putting the straight and non-arthritic grasses and cattail at the end makes me feel they have emerged healed from the Navajo Night Way. They were at first gnarled and knotty pine cones (what macros! You can even see the dripping sap!). Do you know the Lakotan Indian healing Raindrop technique? It is a spinal massage with essential oils that somehow mimics the affects of the Northern Lights. It was created to replace the Northern Lights as the Lakotans were no longer allowd to travel north to experience the real thing.

  7. The photos are awesome. The healing chant is strong. Hubby and I are in tune with Native American culture. One of my favorite authors is Tony Hillerman, have you read his stories?
Anyone with a sore back would appreciate reading this. I would like to print out this post and put it on the wall by my work station. Please let me know if that would be all right to print it out, photos and all.

  9. The sharply focused pinecones remind me of a flock of birds, all facing one way and then, on an invisible signal, all turning to fly in the opposite direction. I love the drama of the black and white; there's a real richness and purity in the tones.

The Navajo healing chant underlines what good (or harm) we can do to ourselves from the messages we constantly play in our own minds.

  10. Getting here late, late, but what is late, what is early, what is a day that rolls on into another day, what is this world that turns, where does all the madness come from, when we could be living in quiet contemplation, and chanting away our pain ?

    I came, I saw, I... pondered...

  11. i come back again to this one, and again i don't dare to comment - it is a sacred ritual you have drawn us into, some of us willing, longing for it already but not knowing the path, some of us perhaps unsuspecting, and now we find ourselves part of it, cleansed, awake, aware of being one with the Self of Nature, of a superior harmony encompassing us all, and everything. again, a humble yet intensely heartfelt thank you.

  13. Hello dear friend
A powerful text .... . the dark cloud will continue its wild ride, the cloud of "unbearable lightness of being", a cloud of death, carried by the son of the wind.
I feel sad, like when we just lost something precious.
something irreparable has happened, and I think the world will never be the same ....
Your images and this song of healing gives me tears in my eyes ..
    Kisses..
