  2. Hi Sagittarian,

That's not something we get much of around here - rain. So it sounds pretty good to me. Right now it's still well over 100 degrees where I live and impossible to spend any time outdoors. A refreshing day at the beach does wonders. So happy you enjoyed the photos!

  3. Such a beautiful post Pickle, great shot and how wonderful it is at the beaches in Ventura County.

What a great way to capture the end of the Summer season with a photo shoot of the beach, The endless summer it seems with this unpredictable heat waves.

Closing of the summer around the corner will leave opportunities for the Fall and all of its beautiful colors and how I look forward to you capturing those moments and sharing them with me.

  4. Wonderful shots, these are a completely different image of california that i am used to seeing! You have given a nostalgic feeling to the shots, summer is unfortunately coming to an end , we have the same feeling here!

  5. Wonderful images you have captured with the changing light! Frankly, I have always loved going to the water after the tourists go home...even mid-winter. Have a great weekend!

  8. Wonderful ocean images and light in the bottom pics! Wish I could also say beaches are emptying around here but they are still so crowded...

  9. While the rich blues of the sky and ocean are breath-taking, and the near empty beach inviting, it's the filtered golden light shining through the palms and onto the promenade that really grabs me. Your photos are bathed in beauty. I remember experiencing a few California days when it was 110 in the shade. Inescapably hot! Nice that you could get to the shore for some relief and a farewell to summer (at least a symbolic farewell).

  10. My Fi,

This heat sucks but temps seem like they will be backing off after the weekend. Can't wait to hit the road together looking for adventures and creating memories. Desert here we come!

  11. Hey Joanne,

This under appreciated beach is unpretentious and has retained its nostalgia. Developers haven't gone mad here. I'm glad it came through in the pix. Enjoy your remaining days of summer!

  12. Hi Myth,

Me too! But I guess every beach gets crowds in the summers. After spending a summer out here, I can see why!

  14. Hey BLOGitse,

I aim to please! And I also love empty beaches. That's the only time I'll go. You have a wonderful weekend too.

    Thank you Robert,

I know you too are sensitive to light in and of itself to support the composition.

    Thanks JM,

Your season must last longer than ours. I do know Europeans in general get much longer vacations than we do here. Must be nice!

    Thank you Louciao,

September is a lovely month for the beach. Still warm enough for a swim but cool enough to enjoy laying out. Wish I could do it more often. Glad you enjoyed the views!

  15. Great shots . . . the photos take me to another time. Ventura county was once the home of Hobbs Landing School, named for Nicholas Hobbs, the father of Re-Ed (the Re-Education of children with severe emotional disturbance). Hobbs Landing was originally Re-Ed's west coast demonstration project. The last time I was there was in the early nineties doing research for a national PBS documentary about the mental health delivery system for children and their families and the school seemed to have greatly suffered from the lack of public funding for mental health services. 35 years ago Myth and I were teammates together at Cumberland House School in Nashville – the first Re-Ed demonstration school.

I do recall the beach and that wonderful golden light. It was in early fall. I believe the year was 1994.

  16. Hi Dee,

That's a great story. You are a great example. It is one thing to have ideas and say things, but it is quite another to roll up your sleeves and get in the trenches. Thank you for sharing that wonderful piece of your past.

  18. Everything you get your paws on, even just a simple trip to the beach, comes out looking stunning...

But what I really want to know is where did you get such a huge quantity of gold dust, and how much did you have to pay an airplane with a crop dusting set up to go sprinkle all that gold dus in the air so you could take those last couple of photos... the light is positively golden...

  20. Hey Owen,

I just rubbed a Magic Lantern. Seriously, it's probably some mixture of smog, moisture, and the early fall late afternoon sun. When we stopped at the top of the pier after dinner and looked north and saw that light, well we were enchanted and I started clicking away.

  21. These pictures are sort of bitter sweet for me. They are beautiful and I love the shadows and golden light. They also remind me of the walks on the beach that my wife and I used to enjoy at sunset. I really miss that. I'll just enjoy the memories until we're able to take walks like that again. Plus there are plenty of new things to enjoy. :)

  22. Oh James,

I imagine of all you miss from California, sunset on the beach shared with a loved one would be the most poignant. But you have a great attitude about change and have no doubt the winds of change will blow you and your wife back to those Pacific sunset beach walks...

  23. Life is a beach, and it looks like a pretty empty beach too. I love seeing those last rays of the day shine down. I feel like I was there!

  24. Hey Amy,

Me too. The rays show up best in autumn out here, especially at the beach. I wish I could get there more often...
