Fall on the Chaparral

. . . the perfume of sagebrush after rain, evokes in magical catalysis, like certain music,
the space and light and clarity and piercing strangeness of the American West.

  3. Like you, I love our chaparral, the smell of wild sage, the songs of birds, being lucky to glance at mule deer, bob cats, coyotes... Living on the coast has its charm too, but I miss living close to the hills.

  4. You chose the perfect caption. The smell after the first rain is the sweetest. Maybe because we in the west have become so parched in anticipation.

Fall and this particular light gives credence to the idea of a fairy forest

  5. Gorgeous Chaparral! The mix of colours couldn't be better and your photos show all its glory. Love them all.

  6. It suddenly occurs to me that the Chaparral is in fact the undersea world of jewel-bright corals and of standoffish tube sponges--less the ocean!

  7. The sky as well as the brush pretty much defines "autumnal" as much as anything back here in the East. Glad to know you have this--I might have started feeling sorry for you as our colors come alive. That's right! Detroit feeling sorry for western mountain and desert folks and California. That's right!

Seriously, these are gorgeous shots. Usually I can choose favorites, but not here. Color, composition, atmosphere -- all perfect.

  10. i think i remember Chaparral from previous posts... it is like nothing else i have ever seen... i was searching for a comparison and suddenly after reading Prospero's comment it occurred to me that, indeed, the landscape made me think of underwater worlds!!! the colours and shapes of each grass and branch and twig are so fascinating, yet what they make up together is even more so, a breathtaking harmony...
