Trajectory of a Sunset

SPLENDOR of ended day, floating and filling me!
Hour prophetic—hour resuming the past!
Inflating my throat—you, divine average!
You, Earth and Life, till the last ray gleams, I sing.

Open mouth of my Soul, uttering gladness,
Eyes of my Soul, seeing perfection,
Natural life of me, faithfully praising things;
Corroborating forever the triumph of things.

~ From Song at Sunset by Walt Whitman

  2. Wonderful colors in these shots. They are all good, but I was drawn to the one with the sun right on the horizon.

  4. XXX I

    Nature rarer uses yellow
    Than another hue;
    Saves she all of than for sunsets,--

    Spending scarlet like a woman,
    Yellow she affords
    Only scantly and selectly,
    Like a lover's words.

    Those images look good enough to eat. And you definitely need to check out the Coursera "Modern & Contemporary American Poetry" course out of U of Penn--it's calling your name. I can hear it.

  7. A perfect morning to see these wonderful images...it is cold and grey here. I especially love the reflections in the sea-washed sands. Now if I could just breathe that air, and listen to the birds. (I just got a shiver!)

  11. Beautiful!
    Brought me back to a sunset I enjoyed on the Oregon Coast a couple of years ago... nothing like it.
    These are just gorgeous. Well done!

  13. Earth and sky are one: these iridescent offerings speak of an imperturbable harmony. The denizens of the beach, quite unaware of the beauty surrounding them, scavenge and comb the place for small rewards. Are we not the same?

  14. I don't know why I get so caught up in choosing favorites at your place, but this time you've really stumped me. I'll say 1,3,5 tie for tops, but each of the 5 would stun me if I saw it by itself.

  16. You have thoroughly outdone yourself here dear Stickup, just catapulting us into realms of loveliness that we had never dared to imagine.

    I'm guessing you got your feet wet doing these, unless you had some wading boots on ? No doubt even the clams and gulls were marveling at so much beauty in the air.

    Whitman must have seen a very similar scene some 150 years ago when he wrote those words ? Or maybe he traveled forward in time to see your pictures ? Or you traveled back in time to take them at the same place where he saw the inspiring sunset behind his words...

    Images are illusions, and I can hardly imagine the tangible magic you must have been feeling here... these are vast, these are infinite

  18. Beautiful and curious. The first photo isn't as dramatic as those that follow. Is that your source file? I'd love to be able to get the kind of successful images that your able to obtain. I'm in some fantastic areas yet I never seem to be ABLE TO SHOW THEM THROUGH PHOTOS IN THE WAY I THINK THEY ARE (damn caps)
