A Song of the Rolling Earth

I swear there is no greatness or power that does not emulate those of the earth,
There can be no theory of any account unless it corroborate the theory of the earth,
No politics, song, religion, behavior, or what not, is of account,
unless it compare with the amplitude of the earth,
Unless it face the exactness, vitality, impartiality, rectitude of the earth.

~ From A Song of the Rolling Earth by Walt Whitman

  2. PS. I see that Bonnie already used two of the adjectives that sprang to my mind as well. I am running out of superlatives to describe what I see here on your blog. You show me places I will likely never see in real life, and make them seem as real and vivid as if I was standing there beside with you--if not more so.

  4. The earth's largest organ is the skin (same as Homo sapiens); in contract, the earth's most vulnerable organ is the heart (same as Homo sapiens).

  5. For me, it's the top photo that's amazing, tho' both have power. Yes, one more vote for "stunning". I hope I'm not stomping on your native territory, but this strikes me as land that only a mother could love--which I guess means, someone born into it. Still, it has remarkable visual power. I'm a bit of a map nerd, so would enjoy knowing where this is, if you care to share. I'm guessing s. central California.

  6. It's funny because I started typing almost the same thing as Bonnie and Louciao. Besides that I'm speechless, well almost. :-) Brilliant work!

  8. i have come to know and to love these amazing shapes, curves, mysterious angles - and wonderful hues on top of all the rest... i will never see them otherwise, i think, but i don't mind, as Lynne also said, looking at your photos makes up for that absence in real life...

  12. Stickup, thanks for your info! In case you don't return to your comment at my place -- did you see any of the photos of Manly Beacon on Wikipedia and other googlable sites? Holy cow. I've heard of Zabriskie Point forever (it seems), but had no idea why. Probably the movie, tho' I remember nothing about it.
