Reflecting on a Mountain Lake

The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors.
Each ghostly reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people.
The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father.

~ Chief Seattle

  4. Oh... it doesn't get much better than this... it really doesn't...

Shimmering reflections, all that light bouncing around the universe, we are so lucky some of it falls into place just for our pure pleasure... and yes, it speaks the timeless truths from the distant past, passing them on, into the future.

  10. The photos coupled with the quote by Chief Seattle gives me a feeling of sadness, melancholy, or loss about a way of life lived by the native people here. Their reverence for life and all of nature tossed aside as America was invaded by a much colder consciousness. Such a bitter unsettling thought that perhaps the Declaration of Independence should have been penned in the bloody red ink of lives, and a way of life, destroyed.

  16. All beautiful, but the middle image is to die for, as in I-would-not-mind-spending-my-final-day-on-earth-right-there!

Some of the finest quotes ever to come from this continent came from its first inhabitants...

  18. Diving into what is reflected has often (for me) made living with reality possible . . . as always you have composed and captured not only an image but a mood that allows us to transcend and discover other perspectives.

  19. A shimmering, Monet-like feeling to these beauties.

  20. The images are beautiful, but the text is great! A message for all generations. Water is essential and she keeps the secret of life. A hug. Elena.

  21. my favourite hues of green and an impossibly to resist blue... and somehow the feeling is that of frost and melancholia, it makes me remember some lines from Mallarme i have recently re-read (very different from the quote you chose, european decadentism against the vital energy and nature communion of the native people of the Americas):

For all are alike in being brought to perdition
By the power of old silence and deepening gloom,
    Fated, monotonous, vanquished, undone,
Like the sluggish waters of an ancient pond.
