The peaceful solitude, the enormity and strangeness of the landscapes, draws me deep into the desert over and over again. It provides a grounding reality like no other place. It was all here before me and will be here still when I am gone. A forever wild elemental place that cannot be subdued or tamed. It is a hard place to fall in love with but when it finally grabs you, it does not let go.
One could almost imagine you've been reading Edward Abbey...
ReplyDeletePlease refresh my memory, have you read "Desert Solitaire" ? Or "Black Sun" ?
Serene and surreal, these vivid sepia visions. Works of art, each one.
Hey Owen, I'm aware of these books but haven't read them. Thanks for reminding me as I have been meaning to!
ReplyDeleteHey there, Stickup!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely works of visual art. I agree with Owen that, given your geographical coordinates, it would would be really interesting to read Edward Abbey!
I sometimes stare at these images and I can almost see myself as a tiny dot moving slowly up the distant mountain side and losing track of time for awhile. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteEach one unique, hard to believe they are all taken in the same area. You have a gift that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever you do to your pictures they are amazing!

We're born with a consciousness, and then, we die.
ReplyDeleteYour images help to give it meaning, providing a significance to the absurdity of it all.
Thanks for sharing your extraordinary gift to capture the beauty and mystery of life on this planet.
Your latest series are absolutely stunning, jaw dropping. I'll be back for a longer view.
ReplyDeleteI like these sepia tones, adds to the warm mood with great details.
ReplyDeleteI like how sharp the images came out with this post, great work!
It is funny how us people are (well, some of us)...we long for places far away while neglecting the ones next to us, then we get there and we long for what we left behind or some other places... Sort of the constant traveler, never left anything behind, being in no man's land and heading nowhere. While looking at your shots of the desert I can't stop and think of our road head, the beauty beneath the rock.
ReplyDeletesilent awe.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteworthy of framing...
