Route 66 Rendezvous

This weekend marked the 21st anniversary of the Route 66 Rendezvous held every year in the city of San Bernardino. The Route 66 Rendezvous is four days long and is the largest cruising car show in the United States.

  1. What a change of venue. I love this series. The vibrant colours in the night light is fantastic.

  2. The night was rich with colors and the way that you take those night shots are just unreal.

The candids are over the edge and the way the rhythm of low rider humming in my head is non stop.

    These pictures came out great!

I feel that this is your calling, ;-)

  3. The depth of the colors at night surprised me. These photos are really lovely, from the cars to the portraits - you have a gift. :)

  5. Do you have a car like that?
Or do you just enjoy watching and shooting great pictures? :)

  7. Totally rad, Chica! The whole scene is so fascinating. Loved the people shots! I find it really hard to do that. Agree with S. Fi: Swinging the cam is some kind of calling!

  9. Oh my god, this must be amazing to see, these people seem to have stepped out of a film scene, what character and wonderful shots, I love the first one. Is it a relaxed event or are there shocks between people? Brilliant I am going to check this out on the net:)))

  10. Dudes with their motors running. You did a fantastic job of capturing it all. The clarity, and intensity of the colours, of those night shots are amazing. I think that's Akiko from last Sunday's Maxim of the Week in the photo 3rd from the bottom!

  11. Holy Shit, Sherlock!

You must have been pinching yourself the entire time, thinking, "If this shit turns out good, it's gonna be way way beyond good!"

Then, to get home, download the stuff and find all these little gems stuck in your pixalator must have blown you away. It's one thing to hope to do a good job and another thing entirely to have succeeded.

There is only one thing that I regret and it is a major regret... That each and every human being of whom you took a photo does not have his or her own 8x10 at hand. Nothing but beauty. Dark beauty. Light beauty. Mass beauty. Individual beauty. Dramatic beauty. Laughing beauty.

    The Navajo Beauty Way Ceremony

    In beauty may I walk
All day long may I walk
Through the returning seasons may I walk
    Beautifully I will possess again
    Beautifully birds
    Beautifully joyful birds
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk
With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk
With dew about my feet may I walk
    With beauty may I walk
With beauty before me may I walk
With beauty behind me may I walk
With beauty above me may I walk
With beauty all around me may I walk
In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk
In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk
    It is finished in beauty
    It is finished in beauty

  12. You are one fine photographer and this series proves it . . . unless one has ever tried taking moving photos at night, one does not know the difficulty.

  13. I'm falling in love with your blog so hard.

  14. Very cool pics. They remind me of the stories my mother used to tell me about when she and her sister would watch the vatos and vatas cruise Whitter Blvd back in the early 1960's.

  15. Thanks Everyone,

For your encouraging comments! I'm so glad you enjoyed this series. It was my first attempt at urban/street photography and I really enjoyed the Rendezvous. As soon as the weather cools down (it's still in the 100's!), I hope to get back on good old Route 66...

  16. Hi Stickup,
Thanks for visiting my blog AGES ago - so sorry not to have returned before now but I've been incredibly busy. I've been looking through your recent posts, and your wonderful photography. I find it quite difficult to take night shots, and these are the ones that jumped out at me here, although your daytime shots are fab too! I especially like the way you've captured the light on the 4th and 5th car shots, and also the two portraits 3rd and 4th from the end - the two people in the car is a particfularly good 'candid camera' shot!
    Janice.
